Client Goal
The water treatment facility for a southeastern water treatment facility had been modified, expanded, and improved over its years of operation. Due to the issues with system maintenance, reliability, and the need to improve the entire treatment process, the decision was made to upgrade the system with more current technology.
Project Overview
The upgraded system included the entire fresh water treatment process from the raw water pumps located at the reservoir, through the finished water pumps serving the elevated tanks. The system utilized conventional controls, panel meter, single loop controllers, mimic graphic panels and relay to provide the system interlocks sequencing and control. In addition, the documentation did not accurately represent the installed system, which made troubleshooting more difficult. The upgraded system utilized a General Electric 90/70 controller with local I/O, remote I/O racks, and Genius I/O to interface to all of the field devices. The Process loops were integrated into the control strategy and the system visualization alarming, logging, and reporting was incorporated into the Wonderware system.
Two (2) identical operator workstations were provided for redundancy. The new system was documented reflecting power distribution, I/O drawings, network diagrams, and a complete drawing set that accurately represents the installed system.
The completed system provides an easier to operate system that incorporates standardized screen navigation, process visualization, trending, alarm, management, processes data logging, and reporting functions. After commissioning the system Tegron went through a complete training of both system functionality with operators and technical performance with support personnel. System operation has remained at peak performance levels since its inception and retains the ability to have additional control functionality added in future stages.
